Front-end Engineer

Date: Nov 10, 2020

Location: Amsterdam, NL, 1012 AB

Company: Cimpress/Vistaprint

Who We Are

Cimpress Technology develops cutting-edge, best-in-world software that our mass customization businesses use to create personalized products for over 17 million global customers. Our Mass Customization Platform is comprised of modular, multi-tenant services. Our businesses can choose the solutions that work for them, or assemble any custom combination they need. This makes it easier and faster to do things like introduce new products, reach customers and track orders. And this kind of innovation keeps customers coming back. Just last year, Cimpress generated $2.88B in revenue through customized print products, signage, apparel, packaging and more.

We encourage our engineers to think like an owner – to continue to act small as we grow. Every team defines their own roadmaps, and uses the programming languages and technologies that suit them best. This helps us have a big impact at the enterprise level while still feeling small and nimble.

About the product

The Document Design Tribe is responsible for the Design Experiences that Cimpress Technology delivers to other Cimpress business units and brands. Our core product is a JavaScript SDK and a library of design components. It is mainly built in TypeScript and the UI components are in React. All UI components are crafted and built mobile-first and responsive to enable a flawless UI on any type of device. Some of our customers choose to custom-build a design experience with this SDK, others prefer to apply their own branding to one of our out-of-the-box solutions (which, of course, are built using our SDK). This SDK is fairly new, and we need your help to fully expand its capabilities and deliver out-of-the-box solutions to our customers. In the upcoming months, we will build a Calendar designer, single photo designer (used for products like canvases, posters, mugs, mouse mats), magazine designers, and others. Functionality that will be added includes background knockout, automated photo placement, embroidery, single and multicolor engravement, and others.

What You Will Do:

As a member of the Design Implementation Squad, you will work closely together with senior FE engineers, UX designers and the Product Manager to perfect the implementations of our SDK and deliver them to our businesses.

  • Collaborate closely with senior FE engineers, UX designer and the Product Manager.
  • Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies like daily stand-up, sprint planning, and retrospective.
  • Collaborate with our customers for efficient implementation of our product in their domain.
  • Be responsible for the quality of your code, for example by writing automated tests or by actively engaging senior engineers for feedback.
  • Rotate first-line support for our customers.

Your Qualifications:

  • Experience with JavaScript engineering
  • Experience with, or a desire to learn TypeScript and React
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
  • A strong desire for self-improvement, and an aim to control your own learning. In other words: research which training you need and who can mentor you, and we will provide the funding and time.
  • Experience in building JavaScript SDKs is a plus, but not necessarily required.

Our tech stack

Shown expertise in JavaScript and mobile/responsive FE application development is required for this role. Experience in all other parts of the tech stack is nice to have, but easy to learn if your JavaScript skills are at a high level.

  • Javascript, Typescript, React
  • AWS, Docker
  • Confluence, Jira, Gitlab, Gitlab CI
  • Jest

Our way of working includes peer reviewing, test driven development, thorough documentation, and Scrum
